The Deceitful Heart

Jeremiah 17:9
The heart is deceitful above all things and beyond cure. Who can understand it?

We think we know ourselves but we really don’t. The Bible says the heart is deceitful above all things! That means we are often fooled by our heart’s desires.

Our heart tells us that:
– A little anger is okay, it is our right to be angry.
– A little greed is okay, it shows we are ambitious.
– A little lust is okay, sexual desires are from God.
– A little lie is okay, as long as no one gets hurt.

And on and on…our heart deceives us. What can we do about this heart that is sick beyond cure? Let’s look at the next verse.

Jeremiah 17:10
“I the LORD search the heart and examine the mind, to reward each person according to their conduct, according to what their deeds deserve.”

God knows our heart condition and is the only one who fully understands our deepest desires. That is a wonderful truth. We can go to God for help. He truly knows us inside and out!

His Word must be the standard for any behaviour we have in mind to do. What the world thinks or does is not important. Most of it is sinful.

Ask God to give you a new heart to obey Him right now.

Ezekiel 11:19-20
I will give them an undivided heart and put a new spirit in them; I will remove from them their heart of stone and give them a heart of flesh. Then they will follow my decrees and be careful to keep my laws. They will be my people, and I will be their God.

Tell me what you think.
