4 things that can’t bring you into heaven and 1 thing that can

I’m going to break down some myths that apparently, hasn’t been addressed much in church. A truth hidden in plain sight. It might be a shocker for some of you but the truth will set you free.

1. The church can’t save you
Attending a church will not save your soul. If your view of church is attending a Sunday event in a building, singing songs, listening to sermons and giving money, you are not a child of God. Perfect attendance means nothing. Even if you serve in any capacity, usher, choir, teacher, you can be still unsaved.

2. Religion can’t save you
What about doing the right things in church? Doing the right rituals, giving the right offerings to God? Baptism? I’m sorry, religious devotion can’t cut it with God. God is looking for so much more than external actions.

3. Being a good person can’t save you
You may be the nicest guy in the world. You don’t kill, you don’t steal. I’m sorry, that’s not enough. Once you’ve sinned, it’s too late. A rotten egg spoils the whole lot. God says that our righteous deeds are as filthy rags to Him. These rags are like a woman’s undergarment during her time of the month. Filthy. That’s how God sees our good deeds. Would a murderer be set free just because he promised to be a good guy from now on? No! He has to be punished for what he did.

4. Being born into a Christian home can’t save you
I hear some people say “I was born Christian”. No one can be born a Christian. There is a physical birth and there is a spiritual birth. That’s why Jesus told Nicodemus that he must be born again. Everyone is born a sinner. We are not sinners because we sin. We sin because we are sinners. No one started out good then became a sinner. You started a sinner by birth and you need another birth to be saved.

5. Only Jesus can save you
Only Jesus can save. You are a sinner who have no hope in yourself. You cannot save your own soul! But God loves us and want us to be with him forever. So God had to send Jesus to die on the cross in your place to take away your sins. If you believe that, and trust that Jesus did it all for you, you will be saved. Notice how the earlier 3 myths were all about doing, doing, doing? Well, Jesus did it all. You don’t need to do anything except to accept that Jesus done it for you. Done, done, done. It is finished. His blood washes your sins away. Paul says work out your salvation, not work for your salvation. There’s a world of difference. Understand that salvation is by one thing only – Jesus Christ. Nothing you can do will save your soul. Get it right now. If you’ve been basing your salvation on anything other than Jesus, repent of your sins and trust Jesus to do the rest.

I must end with a beautiful phrase from Oswald Smith.
“Those who are born once will die twice. Those who are born twice will die once.”

Will you be born twice? Then you will escape the eternal death in hell.

Tell me what you think.
