Your commands are always with me
and make me wiser than my enemies.
I have more insight than all my teachers,
for I meditate on your statutes.
I have more understanding than the elders,
for I obey your precepts.
Psalm 119:98-100 (NIV)
Knowing is the first step. We think we know God’s word we really don’t. Not just the New Testament but the Old Testament too. It is a double-edged sword. All the Bible was given for our teaching and learning.
Join a Bible study group. Have a daily devotional time. Know the word.
Immerse yourselves in the Word, in His commands. That’s the second step. Not just knowing, but really digesting it. Thinking about it the whole day. Digesting each precious word of God over and over again till all juices are squeezed out. The Bible is like a gold mine. The more you dig, the harder it becomes, but the more gold you get out of it.
Ask God to bring His word to your mind throughout the day. While you’re studying, working, exercising. You’d be surprised.
Lastly, Knowing and Meditating must lead to Obedience. Your life must be changed. It must be cleansed by the Word of God. Transformed by the Holy Spirit. As James said, if we look at the mirror and walk away unchanged, it’s useless. We have to look at the mirror (God’s commands) and reflect on our dirtiness that needs to be addressed immediately.
Ask God to give you His strength to obey His commands today and everyday. It will draw you closer to God. God bless you!
